What if consciousness isn't something we experience entirely on our own?

What if, beyond our physical bodies and the world we recognise, there is a connection between all living things that we are only beginning to understand?

We often think of ourselves as separate individuals, each with our own thoughts, feelings, memories and experiences. And in our everyday physical lives, that is certainly how we function.

But I've often wondered whether that separation exists in quite the same way when we look beyond our physical awareness.

Through my own experiences, I've come to understand consciousness as something far more expansive. Something that may connect us not only with other people, animals and the natural world, but potentially with other forms of existence and realities beyond the one we know.

For me, connected consciousness is about more than simply being aware of something.

It's about the possibility of sharing awareness, information and experience through a connection that doesn't necessarily require physical interaction or spoken language.

And I wonder just how much of that connection we are already experiencing without fully recognising it.

What Is Connected Consciousness?

Connected consciousness can mean different things depending on how we understand consciousness itself.

From a scientific perspective, consciousness generally refers to our subjective awareness and experience. How consciousness arises, and how it relates to the physical brain, remain subjects of ongoing research and debate.

The idea that separate minds can directly exchange information through a shared field of consciousness has not been scientifically established.

But from my own spiritual understanding and personal experiences, I see the possibility of something much broader.

I understand connected consciousness as an energetic connection between all living things, perhaps even extending beyond what we currently recognise as life or existence.

I sometimes think of it as an invisible network through which awareness and information might be shared.

Not necessarily through words.

Not necessarily through our ordinary physical senses.

But through a deeper form of connection that we may experience in many different ways.

Could We Be Connected Through Frequency?

One way I understand this connection is through frequency.

Everything in our physical world involves energy and physical processes, but when I speak about tuning into another being's frequency, I'm describing my personal understanding of spiritual connection rather than a scientifically measured communication mechanism.

To me, it is the possibility that different forms of consciousness may be accessed through a particular state of awareness.

Almost as though we are tuning into another source of existence.

I sometimes imagine it as an invisible, two-way information highway.

Once that connection is established, information might be experienced through images, sounds, emotions, sensations or a knowing that doesn't arrive through ordinary conversation.

And perhaps the depth of that connection depends, at least partly, on our own awareness and our ability to recognise what we're experiencing.

I don't believe everyone necessarily accesses these experiences in the same way.

Some may have a very subtle awareness.

Others may experience something much more immersive.

And perhaps there are forms of connection that we haven't even begun to recognise.

The Different Ways We May Experience Connection

When we think about communication, we usually think about speaking, listening, writing or observing another person's behaviour.

But communication can also involve far more subtle forms of understanding.

We may have an intuition about someone before they've said a word.

We may sense that something is wrong with a person we know well.

We may experience a sudden feeling, an image, a dream or an unexplained sense of familiarity.

There are many ordinary psychological and sensory processes that can contribute to these experiences. Our brains are constantly recognising patterns, interpreting behaviour and processing information outside our immediate awareness.

But within my own experiences of mediumship and consciousness, I also consider whether some of these moments might involve another form of connection.

As a medium, I experience information through the clairs: clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience and claircognizance.

At times, this involves images, words, physical sensations, emotions or a knowing that I cannot explain through ordinary reasoning.

And in deeper states of trance, that awareness can become far more immersive.

Rather than simply receiving an impression, I may feel as though I am experiencing another perspective entirely.

For me, these experiences have raised questions about how consciousness might communicate and how much information could potentially be shared beyond our usual physical senses.

Do We Need Words to Communicate?

Think about the relationship between humans and animals.

A dog doesn't speak our language, yet we can develop an extraordinary connection with that animal.

We recognise their behaviour, emotions, expressions and responses. They learn to recognise ours.

Much of this communication can be understood through body language, sound, scent, learning and the relationship we develop over time.

But I've also been interested in the experiences described by animal communicators, who believe they can connect with animals through consciousness rather than spoken language.

Whether such communication involves processes we already understand or something more remains an open question from my perspective.

What interests me is the wider possibility.

If communication doesn't always require words, could consciousness allow for forms of understanding that go beyond our ordinary senses?

And if we entertain that possibility, why would it necessarily stop with animals or people?

Could it extend to nature?

To other forms of life?

Or perhaps even to forms of existence beyond our physical world?

I don't claim to have the answers.

But I think these are fascinating questions to explore.

When Two Forms of Consciousness Become One

One of the most extraordinary aspects of my own experiences involves what I understand as connecting with alternate versions of myself in other dimensions.

I've explored some of these encounters in greater detail in my article Dimensional Experiences: Can We Experience Other Realities?

But there is another aspect of these experiences that I want to explore here.

The connection itself.

When I enter these states, I don't always experience myself as a separate observer looking at another person.

Sometimes, I become completely immersed in the experience.

I see what they see.

I hear what they hear.

I feel what they feel.

And there is a knowing that seems to come from within their experience rather than from my own everyday awareness.

It's as though the distinction between us temporarily disappears.

The closest way I can describe it is that our consciousness seems to mesh together.

I become one with this alternate self.

And in my understanding, that connection may work in both directions.

It's not simply a matter of watching another life unfold.

It feels like a shared experience.

Of course, I cannot independently establish that these are alternate selves existing in other dimensions. That is how I have come to understand the experiences.

But the depth of awareness I experience within them is something that continues to intrigue me.

Because if consciousness can be experienced in this way, what might that mean for our understanding of individuality and connection?

Can We Learn Through Connected Consciousness?

Something I've noticed over time is that these experiences don't always feel random.

There have been occasions when I've returned from what I understand as a dimensional journey with a profound realisation.

Sometimes that understanding has been directly relevant to something happening in my present life.

An issue I've been dealing with.

A situation I've been trying to understand.

Or something I hadn't previously considered from another perspective.

I may come away with a different understanding of a situation, even though the experience itself appeared to take place somewhere entirely unfamiliar.

And this has led me to wonder whether these connections might sometimes serve a purpose.

Perhaps I am learning from another version of myself.

Perhaps, in some experiences, I am there to offer something in return.

I don't know whether that exchange is truly happening in both directions, but it is a possibility I consider.

What I do know is that some of these experiences have changed how I understand situations in my everyday life.

And I'm continually learning from them.

Each experience seems to offer another opportunity to explore what consciousness might be capable of.

Where Do Our Sudden Realisations Come From?

Have you ever had an epiphany?

One of those moments when something suddenly makes sense.

You may have been thinking about a problem for days, weeks or even years.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the answer arrives.

A realisation.

A shift in perspective.

A knowing that changes how you understand something.

We know that the brain can continue processing information outside our conscious attention, and that sudden insights can arise from those processes.

But I sometimes wonder whether there could be other possibilities too.

If consciousness is connected in ways we don't yet understand, could some moments of unexpected insight involve an exchange of awareness?

Could another aspect of our consciousness, or what I understand as an alternate self, somehow contribute to that realisation?

Perhaps another version of ourselves has already encountered a similar situation.

Perhaps they have a perspective we haven't yet developed.

And perhaps, through some form of connection, that understanding becomes accessible to us.

These are questions rather than conclusions.

But when I consider what I've experienced, they're questions I find increasingly interesting.

Could the Help We Ask For Come From Somewhere Unexpected?

There's another possibility I've wondered about.

Throughout history, people have called upon spirit guides, angels, ancestors or other spiritual presences for help and guidance.

Different cultures and belief systems have their own understandings of who or what may be responding.

But what if, on some occasions, the source of that perceived assistance is different from what we imagine?

What if the help we ask for could sometimes involve another version of ourselves?

An alternate self who, perhaps, has access to a different understanding or experience?

And what if we, in turn, might sometimes be the ones offering assistance elsewhere?

I find that possibility fascinating.

It doesn't mean that every spiritual encounter should be interpreted this way, or that I believe I've established where such experiences originate.

It's simply another way of considering what connected consciousness might involve.

Perhaps the connections between us are far more complex than the labels we give them.

And perhaps we don't always need to identify the source of an experience to recognise that it has been meaningful to us.

Is Consciousness a Way of Travelling Beyond the Physical World?

In our everyday lives, we understand travel as moving our physical bodies from one location to another.

But through my own experiences, I've come to consider whether consciousness might allow us to explore in a very different way.

Not by physically transporting ourselves into another dimension.

But by experiencing what feels like another reality through awareness itself.

For me, consciousness has become a means of exploration.

Of communication.

Of learning.

Of accessing experiences and information that seem to extend beyond my ordinary physical life.

I don't know exactly what makes these experiences possible or whether they involve external realities, altered states of awareness or something we don't yet have the language to describe.

But I do know that they have expanded my personal understanding of what it means to be conscious.

And I continue to explore them with curiosity.

There is still so much I don't understand.

And I suspect that will always be the case.

Does Greater Awareness Allow for Deeper Connection?

I believe our awareness can develop.

Just as we become more observant of the physical world through experience, I think we may also become more sensitive to the subtler aspects of our own consciousness.

For some people, that might involve paying closer attention to intuition.

For others, dreams, meditation, the clairs or altered states of awareness may become important parts of their exploration.

In my own life, many of these experiences began naturally, before I had any particular understanding of what was happening.

Over time, I've learned to recognise different states of awareness and, in some circumstances, enter them intentionally.

But I still have spontaneous experiences that take me completely by surprise.

I don't see this as reaching a final level of understanding or mastering consciousness.

Quite the opposite.

The more I experience, the more I realise how much there may still be to learn.

And I think remaining open to that possibility is important.

Being open doesn't mean accepting every interpretation without question.

For me, it means being willing to explore an experience, reflect on it and allow my understanding to develop without feeling compelled to explain everything immediately.

Are We Truly Separate?

When I think about connected consciousness, I often return to the idea of separation.

We experience ourselves as individuals.

We have our own identities, personalities, memories and physical lives.

But what if those identities are only one aspect of a much larger existence?

What if consciousness is capable of connections that extend beyond the boundaries we ordinarily recognise?

And what if some of the experiences we describe as intuition, spiritual communication, extraordinary dreams or dimensional encounters are different expressions of our attempts to understand that connection?

I don't believe we have to agree on one explanation.

There is still so much we don't understand about consciousness itself.

But my experiences have left me with a deep sense that existence may be far more expansive than this physical life alone.

For me, it's not simply about discovering other realities or accessing information.

It's something deeper.

A sense of connection.

A calling.

Almost a remembering of who I perhaps truly am.

And maybe that is one of the most extraordinary questions connected consciousness invites us to consider.

What if we are far more connected than we realise?

FROM THE TABLE

E97: Unlimited Connections: Consciousness Beyond Boundaries

Can consciousness connect us beyond the boundaries of our physical world?

In this episode of The Mediums Table Podcast, I sit down with medium and psychologist Jeannette for another instalment of Unlimited Connections.

We explore non-local consciousness, telepathy, dreams and the possibility that communication between worlds may be experienced through awareness rather than spoken language.

During Jeannette's channeling, two separate beings communicate messages about consciousness without boundaries, spiritual connection and the importance of awareness over fear.

We also explore whether these abilities have always existed within humanity and whether dreams may offer another avenue for communication.

It's a fascinating conversation that complements the questions raised throughout this article about how consciousness might connect us in ways we are still learning to understand.

If consciousness isn't necessarily experienced within the boundaries of our physical awareness, could our perception of time and distance also change?

In the next article, we'll explore extraordinary experiences involving time, distance and awareness, and ask whether consciousness might allow us to experience something beyond the familiar limits of our everyday world.
